Wilhelm   Saberkuhl's  (1726-1795) Descendants

While building this site I have come across many variations in the spelling of our family's name.  From the best information I have so far, the   originally spelling is   Savelkoul (as it still is spelled in Holland and Germany), I have also been told it may have been spelled Saberkuhl.  It has since been spelled phonetically as;

Savacool - Savercool - Sovercool - Savicool +???

Without the generous help of those listed below, this site would contain just a small fraction of the information  now posted.

     Nancy Pascal, whose information on Sussex Co. N.J. can be found at:   Nancy Pascal's Genealogy Page

      Stephen Emery, who has provided information on Wilhelm                       Saberkhul and his heirs. To visit Stephen's great geneaology site  Click here.

    Melinda Cornwell, Melinda can be contacted at: cornwell@alaska.net

     Mark  Savacool, Mark has been a wealth of information and can be  contacted at mark@savacool.com.

    G. Roger Gilbert has been very helpfull and has a site, rich in information on Savacool/Savercool. It can be found by:    Clicking here

  [1.]   Wilhelm SAVELKOUL - LATER REFERRED TO AS WILHELM #1 (maybe spelled  SABERKUHL, as some sources claim) (1726-1795) his wife Christina (1733-1793) came over from Germany on the American ship "Lydia" in 1749 from Rotterdam and settled in Stillwater, Sussex Co.N.J.   Later changed spelling of name to William Savacool (this is the spelling as appears on his tombstone, both Wilhelm and His Wife Christina could not read or write, as they used their "mark" on land title deeds).    [***NOTE:   Wilhelm had a very close relative named Jacob Savelkoul, who also   change   his sir name to Savercool. He  settled and stayed in the Philadelphia area in 1732.]    Wilhelm's  and Christiana's oldest child was   Henry Savercool, I believe he was born in Germany (please correct me if I'm wrong).

Wilhelm  and Christina's  children (as I know so far)   were: Henry, William Jr.,  Conrad,Margaret, Ida +?

[3.] Jacob Savercool - born May 12, 1781 died Aug 4, 1867 buried in the Stillwater Cemetery (note: Jacob was 22 years old when his father William Jr.  from Hardwick (Stillwater) to Ulysses, Cayuga Co , NY., and remained in Stillwater)  Jacob married Christianan Ann Maine - born 4/4/1788 and died Oct. 28, 1842  (daughter of   Johann Jacob Maine and Elizabeth of Warren Co. - CLICK HERE - to go to the Maine family page and read Jacob Maine's will, quite interesting).  Jacob had a second wife, Margaret Stickles Savercool, married late in life therefore no children.

Known Children of Jacob and Christianan Ann Maine;

            Andrew R. Savacool - [I believe the following is proof that Andrew R. Savacool is the son of Jacob and Christina, and the brother of Alpheus Gustin Savacool] - Death Notices from the N.J. Herald, Aug. 8, 1867: "Died - In Hampton township on the 5th,  inst. at the residence of A.R. Savacool, JACOB SAVACOOL, aged 88 years, 8 months and 7 days.   From the Newton, N.J. County Building a court action concerning the estate of Margaret Stickles Savercool, wife of Jacob Savercool. Son, Andrew R. Savacool, called as a witness in the dispute over whether a marriage agreement had been made between his father, Jacob and Jacob's wife, Margaret testified that "My father at the time of his death was 87 years old and quite infirm and childish."   From the Sussex County Court House,  January 10, 1839 - Jacob and wife Chirstina Savacool sold 165 acres to Alpheus G. Savacool and Andrew R. Savacool of Stillwater for $2,700.   On March 27, 1840 they bought back the same acreage from Alpheus Gustin Savacool  and Andrew R. Savacool, for $3,500.  Therefore I assume that Alpheus and Andrew, were brothers.
